From the Arizona Republic last week: “Trump is likely coming to AZ because he feels comfortable here….he believes he has a connection here.” Trump remarked about his speech in AZ in 2015: “We had a tremendous crowd…we don’t forget it. We don’t forget it. It was a very important day. Because I went there and said. ‘Who’s going to show up?’ And the place was packed, OK”.
Trump will be in AZ on Tuesday. I know a lot of people, including myself, feel it’s important to speak up against the hatred, intolerance, and bigotry that his actions and policies represent. And it is. But the most effective way to protest Trump is to not show up at all. To not talk about his presence here next Tuesday, to go about your day because you have more important things to do than feed his ego. This is a man who cares deeply about attracting “tremendous crowds”. Showing up in numbers, whether to admire or protest, will only feed the fire. No good can come of it. People will clash, people will get hurt, and Trump will sit back and brag about the attention, and deflect the blame onto others.
I want to be on record saying it. STOP SHOWING UP FOR HIM. The most effective protest in this case is to remove the oxygen. Stop giving him what he wants. Corporate America is starting to get it. Let’s follow the example.
